As promised I am back with another shorty post about, drum roll please, BBQ!
Summer fun and BBQ go hand in hand, that is QUITE clear. I have been craving some slow cooked meat for awhile, and so, Monday night I went to a joint in Williamsburg called Fette Sau. It is basically a garage with picnic table seating, and beer sold by the GALLON. YEA!
We waited about an hour, engulfed by the sweet and smokey smell of BAR B QUE. I was so hungry (surprise….not), and this was a torturous way to have to wait. The deal is, you order meat by the pound. I figured I would get a pound for myself in total, and split it between four meats. 1/4lb of the beef brisket, 1/4lb of the pork ribs, 1/4lb of the pork belly, 1/4lb of the pulled pork, annndddd for good measure I threw on a spicy pork sausage link. I HAD TO! I also got a small side of coleslaw, and shared some burnt end baked beans with my friends. I also got 3 small dinner rolls…

My tray looked pretty similar to this, hahahaha. SERIOUSLY THOUGH. So, it looks mouthwatering and delicious, right? It was, BUT I do have some complaints. Let’s talk about them.
The pulled pork was very flavorful, but could have been much more tender, it was also dry. The brisket was my main disappointment. You could visibly see it getting dry as it sat on the tray, like as soon as it hit the tray. The pork belly also had good flavor, but needed another 4 hours in the smoker. It was not melt in your mouth quality. I was sad. The ribs had to be gnawed off the bone, they were not tender at all, but did pack a flavor punch. The sausage link was certainly king of the bunch, it was delicious, and BY FAR one of the best links I have ever had. Across the board, all the of the meat needed another 4-6 hours of smoking, but the flavor was there.
The bbq sauce selection was good. They all had great flavor, with some being sweet, and others being very spicy. The coleslaw was a not my favorite. I was expecting a real down home mayonnaise based sauce, but i think it was vinegar and it also had some peppers/weird not traditional coleslaw ingredients. The burnt end baked beans were GREAT. Very hefty, but very yummy.
I feel like I would only go back again with several friends, and would need to get the gallon beer. The pricing was high, and the bbq was far from the best. Georgia’s East Side BBQ in LES is on such a different level of superiority. I wrote about the amazing brisket they serve in an earlier post, check it out!
I don’t think I had any dessert because I just scarfed down 1.2lbs of meat by myself sooooooooooo, yea. However, I have discovered quite possibly my favorite ice cream place and flavor. That is the Soprano Spumoni at Uncle Louie G’s. It is so amazing, homemade, and pretty cheap. Look:
Its like pistachio, chocolate, almond, everything good and that I love BASICALLY.
That’s all for now. I think I will be making a return to the Meatball Shop soon, and I will be back to update you with more FOODVENTURES.

OK OK, I know it has been FOREVER!
Before you all get mad, please hear me out. I am very busy right now with life, and that is a good thing, so, I will be checking in when I can with shorter posts. Hopefully I can make them more frequent because they will be shorter.
Most importantly, LET’S TALK PIZZA!
I just really need to express my feelings about this particular pie because I was so disappointed. Last night, I went to Grimaldi’s in Brooklyn with my friend Sara (SHOUTOUT). I have been hearing about this place for so long, it rivals the Manhattan joint, John’s. So many people have expressed the greatness of Grimaldi’s and I was SO AMPED to try it.
We ordered a red pie with ricotta, mushroom, and italian sausage. Sounds great right? Well, it fell flat. The crust was not crisp at the bottom, which I am actually ok with. For example, Modern in New Haven has this characteristic as well, but it works, and its delicious. Grimaldi’s was not crisp and way too doughy tasting. The outside crust was good only on the parts where it was well done. The actual toppings were not amazing either. The ricotta was just sprinkled on. NOT OKAY. Ricotta should be spoon dropped on top of the pizza so that when you bite into it, it is a little pillow pocket of cheese heaven. I could hardly find it on this pie. Next was the sausage. It was kind of bland, very under seasoned, and not spicy. I was looking for ITALIAN SAUSAGE MAN! This did not deliever. The mushrooms were good, but mushrooms are always good. One big PRO about the pizza was the mozzarella. It was great, and was the best of any of the other pies I have mentioned. Props.

So, overall this pie was not that great. While I was eating it my body craved Reginas, John’s and Modern. Don’t get me wrong, it was still good, I mean, it’s pizza afterall. I just felt it did not match up to all the hype.
The dessert of the evening did. CRUMBS CUPCAKES! I am almost positive I have written about Crumbs before. I got a milkshake cupcake this time. It was marble cake with a vanilla and chocolate frosting swirl. The center had what I like to call a “chocolate awesome” filling. I finished it off with a glass of WHOLE MILK. I went all out.

My next food adventure will hopefully involve BBQ meat by the pound served on a tray, and you best believe I will be writing about that.
